"Plus, the new sites are getting to be just echo chambers."

Amen! I have poked around in Post, Spoutible, and Toad--and that's all they are:

Echo Chambers.

The big problems are:

1. Too fractured; not everyone is in one place.

2. No "quote" re-posts visible to permit messaging third parties.

All of this is the illusion of competition. There are viable and meaningful competitors, but they don't stand a chance. It's a monopoly of sorts, and there's no beating it... so we go back into the sewer constantly. However, news and journalists just fully broke, in my mind.... and that's a death knell.

Twitter's new move to have inline links as images without headlines just broke twitter, and it's the final nail. I'll be on Bluesky, because at least that algorithm looks like there's interaction. Also there's pretty solid tools to find twitter users on mastodon and bluesky from your feed.

Sky Follower Bridge is simple, works well, but will take you a bit: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/sky-follower-bridge/behhbpbpmailcnfbjagknjngnfdojpko

And a website that finds your twitter audience on mastodon: https://www.movetodon.org/
