Thank you very much for this. My story is simpler. Probably dates to 20+ years ago. Fifth Third bought out a large local bank. As an afterthought to the merger, it emptied out all of the titles to vehicles upon which local bank held a lien, threw them all into a box, and took it to the HQ in Cincinnati. Whereupon, unsurprisingly, none of them could be found when customers either paid off their loans in the normal course, or traded them in with partially unpaid notes still secured by the vehicles. The complete incompetence and lack of any giving a rip about customer service goes way back. If someone handed me $4 million, I would find some way to deposit 250k into each of 16 different credit unions, rather than ever go back to a bank of any size. Just sayin’.

We had a strange incident when we arrrived in the US - our money (about $30000+) proceeds from our UK home was 'transmitted' by our UK bank to a NY branch of a bank (I forget who that was now, this is 35+ yrs ago) & we contacted them for confirmation the funds would be available. Answer was that they did not have our funds yet & suggested waiting at least 5 days for said funds to materialize at their bank. Well of course we obeyed, and long story short we reiterated said procedure at least 6 times with still no results. By this time we were in CT & due to make a deposit on a rental home and fearing now no way to find out WHERE our money was ! After about an 8 week debacle & getting REALLY, REALLY angry now (my husband not quite ready to get mad) I finally said to the local bank manager, who was trying to find out what the situation was - "I have had enough of this, if our money is not found within the next week I am going to raise a VERY BIG STINK with the local & national press & TV stations & you will not like what the results are !!!" - he looked terrified - within 3 days he called & told us the money is in our account with them, and please come in to get new check books etc & sign some papers. We will never know how much of the result was pure coincidence or how much was attempted THEFT - but I have my suspicions on that ! I have hated NYC slicksters ever since !
