As was his wont, Norman was not a self-congratulating blower of his own horn where his important support of Air America Radio was concerned. Introduced to me by Hollywood activist, Heather Thomas, Norman was generous with his contacts, ideas, and money. He sought no credit, ad you'll rarely see him named as a AAR benefactor, but he was a reliable source of wisdom and direction to me. As if dragging network television out of its 1950's conservative dormancy wasn't enough, he continually did all he could to promote the building of a more perfect union, and a more perfect world.

Great piece Russ. So impressive that you both knew him and that he contributed to WhoWhatWhy. I just read his piece and Eisenhower’s final address, for the first time. Very worth reading.
