Despite the honor and passion of the majority of millions of "No Kings" rally-goers, in the aggregate they could not come close to projecting the symbolic power displayed by one courageous human standing defiantly before a column of tanks.
Another telling comparison: the effectiveness of Gandhi's Salt March to that of the -- how to describe it neatly -- Tibetan Salt March gatherings of June 14.
The former stands as a brilliantly conceived and executed, triumphant non-violent assault on the economic underpinnings of an imperialist empire.
The latter? To be generous, the jury is out.
From my point of view, the "No Kings" demonstrators were like a set of "extras" on a film without an A-list star and director. It is not my intention to minimize the righteousness of their motives. But despite the grand number of events and huge crowd sizes, there was little gravitas in evidence -- and even less talk of strategic goals to be supported by such tactics.
The painful emotional impact of "No Kings" on Trump, while satisfying as schadenfreude, is of minimal positive significance to the chances of victory in our contemporary war to defeat fascism. His masters, who should be our primary targets, were unharmed; their zeal was undiminished, their economic supply lines were undisturbed.
Even the propaganda value of the demonstrations remains savagely underexploited.
To reiterate, the absences of inspired leaders and a cohesive, disciplined, multi-front offensive strategy ultimately render "No Kings" impotent.
Where is our small man in homespun? Our holy man who has been to the mountain and seen the other side? Our leader who can remind us, with clarity and resolve, that we all breathe the same air and we are all mortal?
Agree, a living farce all with such low standards it's hard to discriminate between the worst & the worst of the worst. We all must stay up to date on things these days to be sure but it's & they're definitely not in my lane or my values & what I value. I won't lower my standards of such either.
